June Ingram - Prune Picking
“I’m June Ingram and I’m here to tell you the story of my years. And I’ve been asked to say why I was asked to be a prune picker. The main reason is I am from Napa Valley and so many people are moving into Napa Valley building big expensive wineries and things like that and they all want to know what I was doing growing up. And I said I was a prune picker and that made them perk up to “what? A prune picker!?” Well it’s not like picking prunes off the tree. You wait until the prunes get ripe and they fall on the ground and then you pick up the ripe prunes and put them in a bucket and if the bucket is full you put them in a lug box and then you can get paid by the lug box and I made enough money to save up to go to college and here I am!”
